The biggest drag race in Canada held at Mission Raceway Park has been postponed due to delays in track surface repairs.
The National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) Division 6 Lordco BC Nationals were scheduled to be held June 6-8, but according to the raceway’s website, the event has been postponed until Sept. 5-7.
Repairs on the raceway began in February, but a number of problems popped up, which added weeks of delays. Issues included rain delays, concrete problems, and scheduling conflicts.
According to reports, the concrete mix was off, causing inconsistencies with the surface, with level variations between one-eighth and one-quarter of an inch. In addition, air trapped during the paving process resulted in blistering of the surface.
The project is expected to be complete in a few weeks, as a crew will use grinding and shot blasting techniques to repair the surface.
